The September reset: how you can harness 'new term energy'
September brings with it that age-old energy of a reset, don't you think? It gets ingrained in us as we grow up throughout our academic years, and then perhaps because of the changing of the seasons, it carries on into adulthood for many of us. We don't know about you, but we love it. Something about those first few crisp days where the air starts to feel fresher, and the business of summer dies down but with the knowledge that life will soon be busy again with the festive season on the far horizon, it's just a perfect time to have a mini fresh start. But we don't like pressure here, so let's keep things cool, calm and collected. Here are a few ways in which we'll be having a September reset and getting ready for the last few months of 2026.
Getting organised
If you're anything like us, then you probably don't take much convincing to buy a new notebook. Starting a September reset can be the perfect excuse for exactly this. Treat yourself to a gorgeous new notebook, maybe a new pen too, and empty out your brain into said new notebook. Whether that's making some reflections on summer, a bucket list for autumn, or even some planning ahead for Christmas if you feel inspired to get really organised. Like all retail, we're very much onto Christmas right now.
Give your desk a refresh
Sticking with the stationery vibe, now can be a good time to give your whole desk space a refresh if you've got one. You may have a new notebook and pen, but why not keep those flyaway pieces of paper together with a simple and handy Penco clip? Invest in a new jotter pad or sticky notes for when you quickly need to make a note of something, or treat yourself to a new pen pot to store your stationery in style. And for an extra special treat, you could even buy a delicious new candle to provide a little bit more light and warmth though those darker days, plus a new favourite autumnal mug for the increase in hot drinks.
Make time time for yourself
We've all heard about this extra rainy autumn that is supposed to be heading our way this year, so get ahead of those dreary days by making some deliciously cosy plans and find ways of embracing them instead. Treat yourself to a new puzzle, book, or find some recipes you might like to try out (top of our list is a plum crumble cake from this Foolproof Traybakes book). Analogue hobbies are so back this year, and it's certainly a trend we're getting behind. The Danes certainly know what they're talking about when it comes to this sort of thing, so why not try embracing 'hygge' to make those incoming darker days feel cosy and warming instead? The beauty of doing a little autumn reset is that there seems to be a lot less pressure on perfection, compared to the scramble of New Years resolutions for example. You can focus on getting yourself organised for the rest of the year but with a more relaxed, slow approach that includes quieter, cosy days too. We may be about to endure a rainy, grey autumn but we're certainly going to try to make the most of it. Tap here to check out our autumn edit and get in the mood for embracing it too.
