Gather, share & savour: the joy of alfresco dining
Picture the scene: it's a sunny evening, the temperature is just right, and you're sat with a cold glass of your favourite tipple and some nibbles with loved ones. Everything is going just right and it's turning out to be one of those pretty much perfect evenings. Can it get much better than that? We don't think so. And although what makes moments like this so lovely isn't the perfect garden or 5 star food, it's certainly nice to have some finer details. Here is everything that Daisy Park thinks you might need for a perfect evening of alfresco dining.
If it's you that's hosting this evening then the best place to start is by setting the scene and laying the table. Got some outdoor fairy lights? Definitely whack those up. Maybe set aside a blanket or two for if it gets colder later on too. In terms of the table, summer is the perfect time to bring bright, joyful colours to your home and garden so we'd recommend doing just that. That can be in the form of pretty plates and bowls, or a gorgeous jug filled with Pimms or lemonade. Even some lovely napkins can make a difference!

Rather than a big elaborate sit down meal, there's something about sharing plates in the summer that feels so much more enjoyable, don't you think? That's not to say there'll be any less food, more if anything! But this can also make things a little easier too. We all love the M&S picky bits, right? Pop in and pick up things like olives, antipasti, fresh bread, whatever your heart (and your guests hearts) desire! Then whack them all into those gorgeous bowls you got for the occasion and you're good to go. Or, if you do feel like giving something a go from scratch yourself, you could treat yourself to a cook book and look like a real expert with some of the dishes you bring out.

When it comes down to it, the key is really in the details - the pretty napkins no one would have thought to get, the centerpiece of fun fish glasses, the funky candles, things like that. If it feels a bit overwhelming, it can be helpful to think of one key detail or centerpiece to start with, then go from there.

Overall, it's really all about creating a relaxed but fun atmosphere. We're big fans of not overdoing it and trying not to overthink it. It doesn't matter if plates and bowls don't match, mix it up! And if you're unsure on what food to have, encourage a bring and share idea instead! It's all about making the most of those balmy summer evenings at the end of the day.
Feeling inspired to do some outdoor entertaining this summer? These are a few of our favourite pieces to help create a fabulous but easy garden dining experience.
