Dates for your diary: what's going on in North Devon this Autumn and Winter
Hello locals, this blog post is for you! As a small business, it'll come as no surprise that we're passionate about lifting up fellow small businesses and keeping things local where we can. We also love where we live, which, if you didn't know, is North Devon. We're pretty proud of our area. There are gorgeous sandy beaches that stretch across our coastline which are just a stones throw away from rugged countryside that's home to wild moors and the famous native Exmoor ponies. Sweet little towns are dotted around these landscapes too of course, such as our town, South Molton, which is nestled in a valley right on the edge of Exmoor. It's all these features that we believe makes North Devon a perfect blend of Britains very best natural elements, much like the perfect cup of tea. One of the many benefits of living in the countryside is the small, local events that take place too. This year, there is a lot going on over the next few months and now that we've rambled on about how much we love our home, we're going to tell you a bit about what's going on here! So whether you're local or you're planning a visit soon, bookmark this page to come back to when you're looking for something fun to do. We hope to see you soon!
Our beautiful Exmoor!
Exmoor dark skies festival
In 2011, little old Exmoor got designated as an International Dark Sky Reserve by the International Dark Sky Association. And it's true, it has some of the best dark skies in the UK. So to celebrate that, the national park authority put on the Exmoor dark skies festival every autumn. This includes events such as stargazing, e-bike night rides, and even starlit sauna sessions! Head to the Exmoor National Park website to see more, it all looks fab.
Halloween half term fun
There is usually some sort of spooky fun to be had throughout October half term, starting off with Quince Honey Farm. They're holding their annual apple and honey harvest, plus they have pumpkin picking available from 26th-28th October too.
Moving beyond half term and onto bonfire night, Saturday 7th is when South Moltons Firework display will be taking place this year. It's always a popular event, and there will be both an indoor and outdoor market on full of fabulous stalls, as well as all important hot food and drinks. You could plan a wholesome Saturday trip to South Molton by coming into town earlier in the day for a mooch around the shops (we'll just mention here that we're open until 4pm, do pop in), then stay for the event from 5-9pm. A lovely afternoon/evening out!
Onto Christmas...
It seems like utter madness to be discussing Christmas events like these, but they'll soon come round so it's good to be organised isn't it? Saturday 21st November will be the next key date in the calendar here in South Molton, on which the Christmas lights switch-on will be taking place. Then for one of our favourite nights of the year: late night shopping! This event takes place on Friday 4th December as part of the annual Winter Wonderland and we love it. The shops and market stay open late (including us), real reindeer pay a visit, a local schools lantern parade and so much more. It really is a magical evening to kickstart the countdown to Christmas. See below for a few photos of us from previous late night shoppings!

That covers pretty much all of the local events to South Molton that will be happening over the next few months. As you can see, there's one or two things each month from October-December and we always enjoy them. It's always nice to bring the town together and create some joy amongst the darker autumn/winter evenings. If you're in need of some cold weather cosiness during all this then check out our collection of warm socks, wrist warmers and scarves from Powder which are perfect for this time of year (or make great gifts). In fact, do check out our autumn edit for some inspiration on how to celebrate this season in your home.

And don't forget, we're open 9:30-5pm every week day and 9:30-4pm on Saturday's, so if you're planning to be in the area during those times over the next few months or whilst these events are taking place, then do pop in for a browse. We hope to see you soon!
