There are not many toy companies that have had as much success as Jellycat has. It's practically a household name now, but if you're not quite aware of what Jellycat is, or you're looking for an explanation as to why the young people in your life are just so obsessed with it, then you've come to the right place. We, of course, are huge fans of the brand, and were lucky enough to start stocking these wonderful toys somewhere during those hazy, strange Covid lockdown days of 2020, just as it was really taking off.

So what makes it so popular?

Well, we just mentioned 2020 and the Covid days, and although Jellycat had been going from strength to strength since it's early days over the past 20+ years, Covid certainly seemed to be the start of it's real virality. Many people looked for comfort and fun during Covid, and Jellycat certainly provided that as it was launching more and more delights in it's Amuseables range at the time. This coincided with the rising popularity of TikTok to create the social media storm we see today surrounding these cuddly toys. Since then, Jellycat started putting on in-store events such as the fish and chips stand in Selfridges and more around the world and this just propelled them even further.

That takes us to where they are today. They have had their fare share of controversies in recent years (such as pulling out of many fellow independent shops, we were one of the lucky ones and we're extremely aware of that, and very grateful), but overall Jellycat continues to have a strong online presence, particularly in the 'kidult' trend on social media, and still among children too. They're highly collectible which always helps, and with many more people returning to an analogue lifestyle and offline hobbies where possible, we think Jellycat is here to stay.

Jellycat was founded in 1999 by brothers Thomas and William Gatacre, and is rumored to have gotten it's name from one of their children. Kids come up with the best names!
